“These celebrations are an initiative against the April 25 revolution, I have no doubt about that. In fact, it was decided by political forces that for 50 years never cared to celebrate November 25 and only now, 50 years later, are concerned due to the magnitude of the April 25 celebrations,” he stated.
António Filipe, speaking to journalists in Portalegre after a luncheon with supporters, considered the celebrations a “revenge initiative” and indicated that if he were President of the Republic, he would not participate in the ceremonial session held today in parliament.
“I have already stated, I was asked if I would participate in this session as President of the Republic, and I have already stated that I would decline the invitation because when it comes to belittling April 25, devaluing April 25, no one will count on my cooperation,” he expressed.
Regarding the National Health Service (SNS), António Filipe lamented the “lack of investment” in the sector and its professionals.
“Investment in health is not primarily aimed at strengthening the SNS, but at diverting funds through agreements to private hospitals, which are growing across the country at the expense of the weakening of the SNS,” he warned.
The events of November 25, where opposing military forces clashed and the so-called moderate wing of the Armed Forces Movement (MFA) prevailed, marked the end of the so-called Ongoing Revolutionary Process (PREC).
