“A candidate who bases their entire political agenda on repeated lies, hate speech, xenophobia, and intolerance is not against the system; they are the worst of the system. It is important that the Portuguese people are not deceived,” declared António Filipe.
The candidate supported by the PCP spoke to journalists on the sidelines of a solidarity rally for Palestine, held in Lisbon, in which he participated.
The former communist deputy argued that Ventura’s candidacy, announced today, “is an openly partisan candidacy,” indicating that “it seems the party has no other candidate for anything.”
António Filipe noted that the leader of Chega stated in his presentation that his candidacy only proceeded because former Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho is not running in the January 2026 elections.
“This means he longs for the ‘troika’,” he quipped, expressing hope that “voters will not be confused.”
Regarding his presence at the Lisbon rally, António Filipe stated he considers solidarity with Palestine a fundamental theme of his candidacy, viewing it as “humanity against barbarism.”
“Today, the UN Human Rights Commission report was released, unambiguously confirming the existence of a genocide, refuting the propaganda of the state of Israel,” he emphasized.
