António José Seguro challenges the government to withdraw the labor proposal.

António José Seguro has urged the government to withdraw its proposed labor legislation and initiate new discussions in social dialogue between employers and worker representatives.

The candidate argues that the government’s package “breaches a democratic principle because this labor legislation proposal was not presented to voters during the election campaign, and it failed in social dialogue.”

He questioned the need and timing of the labor legislation, stressing the need for a more competitive economy. The proposal, he says, does not contribute to reducing gender wage inequality or preventing youth emigration.

Seguro emphasized the divisive nature of the legislation, advocating instead for unity and collective action to address the country’s issues.

He stated that progress requires both political stability and social peace, urging the government to foster such conditions.

Speaking outside the Viseu City Hall after visiting its mayor, João Azevedo, Seguro declined to comment on figures from the government or unions, focusing instead on economic growth as a priority for Portugal.

“I want to be a demanding President who compels parties and governments to address the Portuguese people’s problems, mobilizing talent and intelligence to restore hope and aspiration,” Seguro asserted.

He promised to unify people, reduce division and hatred, and promote hope for the nation.

Identifying himself as a “positive person,” Seguro called for dialogue, emphasizing that democracy is dialogue but not eternal, advocating for a culture of compromise and solutions.

He pointed out that while Portugal has diagnoses and proposals, it lacks leadership, a gap he aims to fill as President.

Highlighting the struggle of many families, Seguro expressed the need for a competitive economy to improve salaries and lift people out of poverty.

“With two million people living in poverty in Portugal, it’s time to abandon politicking and party politics and focus on essential solutions to improve lives,” Seguro reinforced.
