António José Seguro expressed confidence that he will not only advance to the second round of the presidential elections on January 18 but also emerge as the most voted candidate. His statements were made during a conference on economy and housing in Guimarães, Braga district.
“Everyone knows my background; I come from the realm of democratic socialism, social democracy. I have dedicated my life to fighting for values, and people know where my values lie. I represent a modern and moderate left, a left that upholds freedom, equal opportunities, and social justice, and strives for the country’s progress. I am a defender of the Constitution of the Republic, a Europeanist, and these are my values, this is my genetic code,” he stated.
However, he stressed that more important than knowing where one comes from is knowing where one wants to go.
“I aspire to be the President of all Portuguese people, and I am not pursuing the Presidency to engage in partisan politics. I want to represent everyone because I have an urgent mission: to help contribute to a better life for Portuguese citizens,” emphasized the former Secretary-General of the Socialist Party (PS).
Regarding the election results on January 18, António José Seguro appeared calm and assured.
“I am a very calm person, and I am confident that on January 18, I will not only advance to the second round but also become the most voted candidate for President of the Republic,” he remarked.
Discussing health sector issues, Seguro refrained from commenting on whether the current Health Minister, Ana Paula Martins, should resign, emphasizing that his priority is to find solutions.
“My concern is that political actors find solutions to address a serious issue we face, which is the difficulty Portuguese citizens have in accessing health care. I leave the rest to the political parties,” he stated.
