Anxious for autumn? Find out what the weather will be like tomorrow

The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has released the weather forecast for tomorrow, Friday, October 17, for mainland Portugal. The sky is expected to be “slightly cloudy,” and there will be a “slight drop in temperature.”

In a note shared on Facebook, IPMA specifies that the sky will be “slightly cloudy, temporarily very cloudy along the coastal strip north of Cabo Mondego,” with a “possibility of showers” in the afternoon inland.

The wind will blow “weak” and is expected to predominantly come from the “east quadrant,” blowing “temporarily moderate in the Algarve and occasionally strong in the Algarve mountains until mid-morning.”

There is also a “possibility of fog or mist forming in some coastal areas north of Cabo Mondego.”

As for temperatures, there will be a “slight drop” in the minimum.

On Friday, according to the IPMA, the highest maximum temperature will be recorded in the districts of Évora and Setúbal, reaching 30°C. Meanwhile, in the district of Aveiro, the maximum will be 22°C.

Is Autumn in Sight?

After a week starting with heat, Wednesday brought some cloudiness and light wind, especially from the afternoon. However, this won’t necessarily mean a drop in temperatures.

Thursday will bring periods of very cloudy skies again – both in Greater Lisbon and Greater Porto – but this doesn’t mean the heat will not persist. Although a slight drop in the maximum temperature is expected tomorrow in the northern and central coastline, Lisbon, Beja, and Castelo Branco will continue to expect a maximum of 29°C, while Santarém may reach 31°C.

Outono à vista? Nuvens vieram para ficar... chuva não. Mas isso vai mudar

Had enough of the heat? Clouds have started to arrive, but the real change in weather starts on Sunday. Next week, say ‘goodbye’ to above-average temperatures as typical autumn conditions return: rain, wind, and cooler air.

Until the End of the Year, It Will Be Warmer Than ‘It Should Be’

The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has made its forecast for the next three months, indicating that during this period, the average monthly air temperatures will ‘suffer’ a positive anomaly, meaning it will be warmer than ‘it should be.’

According to the analysis, published this Thursday, “for the months of October and November, the anomaly is 0.5 to 1.0 °C, decreasing to 0.25 to 0.5 °C in December.”

IPMA: Até ao fim do ano, vai fazer mais calor do que 'devia'. E chuva?

The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere points out that, both in mainland Portugal and in the Azores and Madeira, the temperature will be slightly above average.
