Swimming has been discouraged due to the detection of pathogenic bacteria (‘Escherichia coli’ and intestinal enterococci) in the water, confirmed a source from the Douro Port Captaincy.
This marks the fourth instance since the start of the bathing season that swimming has been discouraged at Matosinhos beach, as recorded by the National Water Resources Information System (SNIRH).
In 2024, the water quality at Matosinhos beach was rated as poor, after being considered acceptable in 2023 and good in 2022.
In the municipality of Matosinhos, within the Porto district, the bathing season began on June 14 and will conclude on September 14.
