Applications for support in response to Bluetongue and Storm Kirk end today.

A Rural Development Program (PDR) measure, allocating eight million euros, targets producers affected by losses equal to or exceeding 30%. Farmers cultivating maize, apples, and chestnuts may receive up to 42,000 euros per farm. Eligible expenses for this support are those incurred after the occurrence dates of the storm and catastrophe, specifically linked to Storm Kirk, which occurred on October 9 and 10, 2024.

Sheep owners experiencing revenue decreases below 30% can access a total aid of 1.9 million euros. In April, the government detailed that sheep farmers reporting to the Directorate-General for Food and Veterinary (DGAV) between September 5, 2024, and January 16, 2025, would receive 48 euros for each sheep lost.

A five million euro credit line with fully subsidized interest rates has also been established to fund the purchase of breeding sheep in flocks affected by bluetongue disease. This credit offers a five-year repayment term. The individual credit limit is set at 120 euros per breeding sheep, with 240 euros allocated for those of autochthonous breed.

Bluetongue is a notifiable viral disease affecting ruminants and is not transmissible to humans.
