The Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) announced on Wednesday the anticipated traffic disruptions in Vila Franca de Xira due to the Festas do Colete Encarnado, scheduled from July 4 to 6, and issued a series of recommendations for residents and visitors.

A statement from the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the PSP highlighted that the festivities will feature numerous cultural events, which will impact daily life and regular traffic flow.

To ensure the events go smoothly and the safety of thousands of visitors, road closures will be necessary in the northbound direction, impacting areas such as Largo 5 de Outubro, Rua 1.º de Dezembro, Rua Almirante Cândido dos Reis, Rua Serpa Pinto, Largo Marquês de Pombal, Rua do Curado, Rua Joaquim Pedro Monteiro, and Curraleta from 1:30 PM on July 3 to 1:00 AM on July 7.

Alternative traffic routes will be available in both directions on roads comprising the southbound path, including Rua Alves Redol and Rua Luís de Camões.

However, total road closures will occur during the following periods:

  • From 4:00 PM on July 4 to 6:00 AM on July 5;
  • From 1:00 PM on July 5 to 6:00 AM on July 6;
  • From 9:00 PM on July 6 to 1:00 AM on July 7;

During these times, the PSP advises using the A1 highway (North/South and South/North) and signposted detours at Rotunda da Marinha and the intersection of Rua Alves Redol with Rua António Lúcio Batista.

It is noted that on July 5, the traffic closure might be delayed to 2:30 PM due to the passage of the 4th stage of the Volta a Portugal Feminina – Cofidis.

Additionally, on Sunday, July 6, authorities warn that between 9:30 AM and 12:30 PM, crossing the city southward (towards Lisbon) will only be possible via the detour to R. Jacinto Nunes and access to the variant of Br. da Mata (Estrada Marciano Mendonça), due to the final Running of the Bulls event.
