Former socialist minister Armando Vara was detained by the Public Security Police (PSP) on Monday night to serve a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence.
He was taken by the PSP from Odivelas and is currently being admitted to the Lisbon Prison Facility.
The public broadcaster reported that the former minister may be transferred to another prison in the coming days, possibly to Carregueira or Évora.
Armando Vara had previously been sentenced to five years in prison in the Face Oculta case for three counts of influence peddling. He was released from the Évora Prison Facility in October 2021 after serving about three years due to exceptional measures related to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In July 2021, the court imposed a two-year prison sentence on him for money laundering in the Operação Marquês case.
