A 55-year-old man was arrested by the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) following a fire he caused in August at a workshop in Feijó, Almada, Setúbal district.
A statement issued to Notícias ao Minuto on Sunday detailed that the suspect visited the workshop, “where several vehicles were parked,” and “without any justifiable reason, set one on fire before fleeing the scene.”
Authorities elaborate that the fire “posed a danger to other properties, notably other commercial establishments and residences,” but more severe consequences were averted due to the intervention of the workshop owner “and later, firefighters who extinguished the blaze.”
The detained individual, who has a criminal record for similar offenses, appeared for a preliminary judicial hearing and was subjected to weekly reporting requirements as a coercive measure.
