Arrested after threatening PSP who responded to a noise complaint on a terrace

A 30-year-old man was arrested after making threats and insults towards agents of the Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) who were called to respond to a complaint about excessive noise at an outdoor seating area in the Olivais parish of Lisbon.

In a statement released on Saturday, the authorities noted that they had previously been called to the location “for a similar situation, with those responsible ceasing the disruptive behavior during earlier interventions.”

However, this time, “one of the individuals adopted a hostile and uncooperative stance, directing insults and threats at the officers.”

“Given the escalation of the situation and the gathering of several people at the location, additional police reinforcements were deemed necessary to ensure appropriate safety conditions for intervention,” the statement added.

With more resources on site, the PSP established “a safety perimeter, allowing for intervention under controlled conditions.”

“During the operation, the suspect pushed and threatened the officers, continuing to use insulting and threatening language towards them. He was thus put under arrest,” the authorities stated.

Even at the PSP premises, the man “maintained a provocative and threatening attitude towards the police” and was taken to the detention facilities of the Lisbon Metropolitan Command to be presented to judicial authorities.
