Arrested for raping ex-girlfriend in Oeiras is fitted with an electronic bracelet

A young man has been issued a restraining order enforced through electronic monitoring after threatening his ex-girlfriend with a firearm, according to a statement from the Judiciary Police. Following his initial judicial hearing, the Criminal Instruction Judge decreed the use of electronic means, commonly known as an electronic bracelet, to ensure the young man’s distance from the victim.

In such cases, the aggressor is equipped with an electronic bracelet, while the victim receives another device. Should the young man infringe upon the court-defined distance, an alarm is triggered at the police station, prompting a police response to the GPS-specified location.

The 17-year-old was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of aggravated rape against his former girlfriend in Oeiras, within the Lisbon district, between December 2024 and February of this year, as detailed by the Judiciary Police.

The investigation commenced following a report from the victim, a 16-year-old girl.

The incidents allegedly took place in the young woman’s residence during at least three separate occasions between December 2024 and February 2025.

“On all these occasions, the suspect is believed to have coerced the victim into significant sexual acts against her will, displaying a firearm both in person and via video call,” stated the Judiciary Police in a communication.
