The Public Security Police (PSP) announced the arrest of a 56-year-old woman in a case of increasing domestic violence, following investigations conducted after the victim reported a worsening situation that had persisted for years. The escalating violence involved insults, assaults, and life-threatening threats against the elderly victim, according to police.
The incident unfolded on Wednesday afternoon when the victim inadvertently pressed the tele-assistance button. The suspect, overhearing the mother telling Red Cross personnel that it was a mistake and she did not require assistance, interpreted this as a lie, believing it was a deliberate act by the victim. This led to further verbal abuse from the suspect.
The PSP reported that around 8 PM, following intervention in the domestic violence incident, the suspect entered her mother’s room, placed a pillow over her face, obstructed her breathing, shook her, and issued death threats. The victim managed to leave the house and spent the night at a hotel.
The woman was arrested the following day and brought before the Cascais Judicial Court in Lisbon, where she was remanded in custody, as stated by the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the PSP.
