A 40-year-old man was detained last Friday, September 5, by the Public Security Police (PSP) in the parish of Arroios, on suspicion of domestic violence against his partner.
In a statement to the press, the PSP indicated that officers were sent to a hostel where a domestic violence situation was ongoing. The suspect had already been “detained by one of the witnesses.”
The PSP found that the suspect was “in a heated argument with the victim” and had suddenly grabbed her neck, attempting to “cause her to fall through the window.”
However, “with the help of one of the employees,” the woman was able to “dodge,” and the aggressor ultimately fell “unprotected onto an awning and subsequently to the ground.” The fall was from approximately three meters high.
The man “stood up and fled,” but was “pursued by one of the witnesses, intercepted, and detained until the police arrived.”
It is highlighted that the victim, “probably fearing retaliation, did not cooperate with the police to ascertain pertinent facts for risk assessment. This is a public crime, and any third-party intervention in defense of the victim will always be welcomed.”
The individual, who has already appeared before the court, will remain in preventive detention, the most severe coercive measure.
