The ASAE announced that an operation carried out by the Southern Regional Unit aimed to prevent crime related to price speculation.
During the operation, multiple establishments were inspected, revealing instances where the prices charged to customers exceeded those listed, with discrepancies reaching up to 50% in some cases.
“As a result of the operation, 12 criminal cases were initiated for the crime of speculation. A total of 277 food products, including pastry and café items, were identified as being sold at prices higher than advertised, with some showing speculative increases of up to 50% compared to the posted values,” the statement reads.
ASAE emphasizes it will continue enforcement actions across the country, aiming to ensure “fair competition among economic operators” and to protect food safety and public health for consumers.
