The “Operação Roleta” was initiated by the Southern Regional Unit of ASAE, targeting restaurants and bars in the municipalities of Torres Novas (Santarém), Olhão, and Tavira (Faro), as announced in an ASAE statement.
According to the statement, “During the operation, it was found that the establishments were illicitly and deceptively promoting games of chance using specific equipment for this purpose, including roulette-type machines, internet kiosks, and capsule or ball dispensers, used to conceal the illegal activity.”
The operation led to five criminal proceedings for “illegal exploitation of games of chance” and the seizure of five “roulette-type” gaming machines, one internet kiosk, and six capsule/ball dispensers “used for the illicit practice of games of chance.”
“Three individuals were identified as suspects and subjected to Identity and Residence Terms. Additionally, two administrative offense proceedings were initiated for the exploitation of similar modalities of games of chance, and a sum of 350 euros in cash, resulting from these illegal activities, was seized. The total value of the seizure amounts to 19,000 euros,” ASAE further disclosed.
