The Food and Economic Safety Authority (ASAE) seized 170 units of phytopharmaceutical products after inspecting 63 economic operators as part of a nationwide inspection operation.
The ASAE inspected “63 economic operators” and found eight operators “in violation”, noting “the marketing of unauthorized phytopharmaceutical and adjuvant products by the DGAV [Directorate-General for Food and Veterinary], lack of pricing on goods, and non-compliance with metrological control operations”.
As part of this operation, named Operation FITOCONTROL, “170 units of phytopharmaceutical products” were seized, as disclosed in a Facebook post.
The authority also notes that it “will continue to conduct inspection and surveillance actions to ensure compliance with legislation and the protection of public health”.
What are phytopharmaceutical products?
According to the Ordem dos Farmacêuticos, phytopharmaceutical products are “natural or synthesized products intended to protect plants from diseases, pests, or weeds”. Their use aims to keep plants “healthy so that they can realize their full productive potential, both in terms of quantity and quality of agricultural products”.
Phytopharmaceutical products “provide various benefits and are available not only for agricultural use but also for forestry and gardening”.
