The Food Safety Authority executed four search warrants in the municipalities of Batalha and Caldas da Rainha. The seized products were sent “for destruction or animal feed”.
At the end of last week,the Food and Economic Safety Authority (ASAE), through its Southern Regional Unit – the Santarém Operational Unit – carried out “the execution of four search warrants, carried out as part of the fight against the crime of clandestine slaughter and commercialization of abnormal, defective or corrupt foodstuffs”, in the municipalities of Batalha and Caldas da Rainha.
As a result of the action, the authority explains in a statement to which Notícias ao Minuto had access, it was determined that “4,260 kg of meat products were seized, namely sheep carcasses, frozen sheep meat and frozen chicken, worth approximately 21,130.00 euros”.
After an expert examination, the meat products were “sent for destruction or animal feed”, according to the analysis carried out.
In the same statement, ASAE said that it “will continue to carry out inspections, within the scope of its powers, throughout the national territory, in favor of healthy and fair competition between economic operators, safeguarding food safety and the public health of consumers”.
