
The defendant faces charges of trespassing in a restricted area, aggravated physical assault, aggravated threats, aggravated insults, damage, theft, and possession of a prohibited weapon.
During the closing arguments of the trial, both defense and prosecution requested the man’s acquittal on the grounds of mental illness and, should the crimes be proven, his sentencing to psychiatric treatment.
The man is awaiting trial under preventive detention, a precautionary measure due to his mental health condition.
On October 28, 2024, upset over his son’s dismissal from the municipality in the Lisbon district, the defendant went to the Torres Vedras City Hall armed with a sharp object and entered the building’s services unauthorized, according to the Public Prosecutor’s accusation.
Inside the municipal facilities, he confronted the head of the Patrimony Division, whom he insulted, threatened, and assaulted, along with three other employees who came to her aid, damaging a door before leaving the premises.
The man was arrested by the PSP on November 5, 2024, following a search warrant issued by the Public Prosecutor.
