A 43-year-old man was arrested on the afternoon of May 4 for assaulting a woman, the mother of his children, and preventing their young son from seeking help, in the parish of Encosta do Sol, Amadora.
The individual had requested the victim “to have the children ready to be picked up at the residence”, but when he arrived, he “found that the children were not yet ready to leave.”
“The suspect delivered several punches and slaps to the woman’s face, and also prevented the minor from leaving the house to seek help, giving him a strong push”, stated the Public Security Police (PSP) in a statement sent to newsrooms on Wednesday.
The authorities arrested the man on an adjacent street just minutes after the incident.
“As evidenced during the investigation, this suspect had assaulted the same victim about a year ago, in an incident also attended by the PSP,” added the PSP.
The man was taken to the detention rooms at the Lisbon Metropolitan Command and appeared in court for his initial judicial hearing the following morning. He was placed under a Term of Identity and Residence.
