Association Acibev advocates maintaining the tax regime for wine and spirits

The executive director of Acibev, Ana Isabel Alves, has called for wine and sparkling wines to remain exempt from the Alcoholic and Non-Alcoholic Beverage Tax (IABA), she stated in comments to the Lusa agency.

Currently, wine sales are subject to a 13% VAT rate, while sparkling wine sales incur a 23% VAT rate.

For spirits such as brandies, Port wine, Madeira wine, and Moscatel wine, Ana Isabel Alves argues that current tax rates should not be increased in 2026.

The IABA on sangrias and other fermented flavored beverages stands at 12.06 euros per hectoliter.

Intermediate products such as fortified wines, Port wine, and Madeira wine are taxed at 87.92 euros per hectoliter, and spirits are taxed at 1,602.51 euros per hectoliter.

The executive director of Acibev also advocated for a reduction in the tax burden on all companies, including those in the beverage sector, particularly concerning Corporate Income Tax and municipal and state surcharges.
