A 58-year-old man has been arrested by the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) on suspicion of attempting to murder his stepson in Matosinhos, following dissatisfaction with the manner in which the stepson was speaking to his mother.
In a statement sent on Monday, November 10, to Notícias ao Minuto, the inspectors disclosed that the man has been charged with attempted homicide and possession of a prohibited weapon.
The incident occurred in the early evening of November 5, in a residential area in Matosinhos.
The suspect and the victim became embroiled in an argument after the former expressed “discontent with the way the stepson was speaking to his partner, the victim’s mother.”
The PJ further reported in the same note that “the assailant armed himself with a firearm and shot in the direction of the stepson, striking him in the chest area.”
The victim, who was in life-threatening condition, was urgently transported to Hospital Pedro Hispano, where he underwent surgery.
The detained individual, who has no prior criminal record, will be presented before the competent judicial authority for the initial judicial hearing and determination of appropriate preventive measures.
