A 60-year-old man has been arrested after striking a neighbor with a cement block in Miranda do Corvo, in the Coimbra district.
The Judiciary Police (PJ) reported on Thursday that the accused and the 55-year-old victim have had “a conflictual relationship for several years, with frequent incidents of verbal violence and threats to physical integrity.”
“From a height of about 4 meters, the accused, residing in an upper floor, struck the victim with a cement block weighing about 16 kilograms as the victim was leaving home, hitting him in the head and causing him to collapse unconscious,” the statement reads.
The PJ explained that it was the victim’s wife who found him unconscious upon her return home. “The victim’s wife found her husband lying on the ground, unconscious, with bleeding head injuries. She immediately called emergency medical services, who administered first aid and transported him to a hospital in serious condition,” the report detailed.
The suspect is now due to appear for an initial judicial interrogation for the application of appropriate pre-trial measures.
