A 58-year-old man has been arrested in the municipality of Fundão, located in the Castelo Branco district, on suspicion of attempting to murder his 38-year-old son-in-law last Wednesday, March 26.
The Polícia Judiciária (PJ) reported in a statement that both the suspect and the victim, who are of foreign nationality, have been living in “increasing conflict” since January.
On Wednesday, a new argument between the two erupted inside their shared residence, quickly escalating into a physical confrontation.
According to investigators, the suspect then pulled a knife from his pocket and stabbed his son-in-law in the abdomen.
The victim was found later in the day on a public road by members of the Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR), who alerted emergency medical services and the PJ.
Due to life-threatening injuries, the victim was transported to the hospital and underwent surgery.
The suspect, after being arrested and brought before a judicial authority for the first interrogation, was remanded in custody.
