The government has extended the deadline for the payment of the Municipal Property Tax (IMI) until the end of June. The extension, announced by the Ministry of Finance on Thursday, also applies to the submission of Form 22.
This decision arises due to difficulties accessing the Tax Authority’s (AT) online platform following last week’s power outage, which has resulted in technical issues affecting the issuance of tax notices for IMI payments due in 2024.
“Considering these constraints prevented the timely sending of a significant number of IMI tax notices, the government decided to extend the deadline for all taxpayers to pay the first installment of the IMI or, where applicable, the single installment, until the end of June,” stated a communiqué sent to newsrooms.
The original payment deadline was June 2, allowing taxpayers additional weeks to settle their dues.
In line with this decision, the government has also extended the deadline for submitting Form 22 to June 16.
“Additionally, given the temporary difficulties in accessing the Tax Authority’s portal and the proximity of new deadlines for fulfilling VAT obligations, which affected the work of businesses and accountants in filing Corporate Income Tax (IRC) returns (Form 22), the government also decided to extend the deadline for fulfilling this obligation until June 16,” the statement from the Finance Ministry added.
The government assured that it is monitoring the progress of efforts to restore normalcy in the Tax Authority’s IT systems following the widespread power outage affecting the entire Iberian Peninsula, evaluating the impacts on tax compliance and adjusting the fiscal calendar as necessary.
