The Tax and Customs Authority (AT) issued a warning this Friday to taxpayers about the dissemination of “fake emails and SMS” sent in their name, which “contain malicious links aimed at obtaining personal or banking data.”
“The Tax and Customs Authority has detected that taxpayers are receiving fake emails and SMS (phishing and smishing), sent by individuals impersonating the AT,” states the alert sent via email.
The AT indicates that “these communications include malicious links intending to obtain personal or banking data.”
Consequently, the AT clarified that it “only sends emails from addresses ending in at.gov.pt” and “never sends emails or SMS with links to insert, change, or confirm personal or tax data,” or “with links to make payments.”
Moreover, “all communications and digital operations with the AT must be carried out exclusively through the Finance Portal,” and users should verify that the address starts with https://.
After secure authentication, you can access your personal and tax data, ranging from declarations to payment documents and processes.

- All communications sent centrally by the AT are available on the Finance Portal;
- To check the emails and SMS sent, log in, authenticate, and select “Communications” from the side menu.
“The AT reminds that it only sends informational communications to taxpayers who have activated the sending of emails and SMS and have their contacts (email and mobile phone) confirmed on the Finance Portal,” emphasizes the alert.
The Tax and Customs Authority is aware that some taxpayers are receiving “fraudulent messages.” Be alert and do not be deceived: “These messages are fake and should be ignored.”
