The deadline for paying the Municipal Property Tax (IMI) is approaching: taxpayers can settle the first installment of this tax until the end of June, meaning there is less than a week left to do so.
The IMI is usually paid in May, but this year the deadline was extended to June due to the energy blackout that occurred in April, which caused IT disruptions.
In May, the government extended the deadline for IMI payments until the end of June and also decided to prolong the date for submitting Model 22, announced the Ministry of Finance.
The extension was due to difficulties accessing the Finance Portal, which have persisted since the energy blackout, leading the Tax Authority (AT) to inform the government of “technical constraints” that affected the “issuance of IMI payment notices for the year 2024”.
“Considering that these constraints hindered the timely sending of a large set of IMI payment notices, which is currently underway, the government decided to extend, for all taxpayers, the deadline for the payment of the first installment of the IMI or, if applicable, the single installment of this tax until the end of June,” stated a note sent to newsrooms.
IMI Schedule: Remember the Dates
According to the law, IMI is paid in a single installment during May – this year, it can be done until the end of June – when the amount is less than 100 euros. It is divided into two installments paid in May and November when ranging between 100 and 500 euros.
Exceeding 500 euros, it is divided into three equal installments to be paid in May, August, and November.
However, for several years, property owners have had the option to make the full payment of the tax during the May installment if they choose. The latest official data shows that in 2023, 556,011 taxpayers made the early payment of IMI.

This year, IMI payment can be made until the end of June.
In a Facebook post, the Tax Authority (AT) explains that it is possible to “check the IMI amount and payment reference on the Finance Portal“.
To do this, follow these steps in your Personal Area:
- Integrated Tax Situation
- IMI
- Payment Documents.
Then, simply select the “document where you will find all the data to make the payment – Amount and respective reference”.

The issuance of IMI payment notices sent by mail to taxpayers is “practically completed”, but those who wish to pay the tax earlier can use the reference provided on the Finance Portal.
