Various locations in the districts of Coimbra, Faro, and Lisbon will experience power outages on Sunday, November 16, between 05:00 and 11:00 due to maintenance work on the distribution network.
E-Redes announced this information on its website, explaining that “maneuvers, connections, repairs, or maintenance works on infrastructures are carried out in a planned and controlled manner.”
“Temporary and short-term interruptions occur when all available power alternatives are exhausted to ensure the impact on customers is minimized,” the statement reads.
The municipalities affected by this intervention are the União Das Freguesias De Coimbra (in the district of Coimbra), Quarteira (district of Faro), and Campolide, Lumiar, Marvila, and União Das Freguesias De São João Das Lampas E Terrugem (district of Lisbon).

Last Sunday, there were also power outages in various areas in the Lisbon and Algarve regions.
Last week, the municipalities affected by this E-Redes intervention included Lisbon, Oeiras, and Sintra (in the Lisbon district), Tomar (district of Santarém), and Faro, Lagos, and Olhão (district of Faro).

E-Redes explains that these are “scheduled interruptions, pre-arranged,” aiming to “ensure the quality and reliability of the electrical service.” See the list of affected locations.
Are the appliances safe?
Pedro Silva, an energy expert at DECO PROteste, explained to CNN Portugal last week that “in principle, nothing will happen,” because this is a “scheduled maintenance where the energy restoration is done carefully, and there is a network operator responsibility for any failures that may occur or damage that may be caused.”
However, although the probability is very low, a “power surge may burn out an appliance,” and therefore, for consumers who want to “play it safe,” DECO PROteste advises “disconnecting the equipment.”

On Sunday, there are “scheduled power outages” in areas of the municipalities of Lisbon, Oeiras, Sintra, Tomar, Faro, Lagos, and Olhão, due to maintenance work on the distribution network. If you want to play it safe and avoid problems with appliances, it’s best to disconnect them.
