The warning is valid from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday. These three districts begin Friday morning under an orange warning, lasting until midnight on Saturday.
Bragança, Porto, Guarda, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo, Leiria, and Braga will also be under an orange warning on Friday due to “persistent and occasionally heavy rainfall.”
On Saturday, these ten districts will be under a yellow warning due to the forecast of rain.
The IPMA has additionally placed Setúbal, Santarém, Lisbon, Castelo Branco, and Portalegre under a yellow warning on Friday and Saturday.
IPMA’s warnings—red, orange, and yellow—are issued when there is a weather situation of risk, which can be assessed as high, moderate, or low.
The National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC) issued a public warning today for preventive measures due to the forecast of heavy rain, wind, and the possibility of floods or inundations in the coming days.
An ANEPC source told Lusa agency that the readiness level has been raised to 3, indicating a greater response capability from the operatives.
Civil Protection advised that significant fluctuations may occur in the flows of historically more vulnerable areas.
The worsening weather conditions are related to the forecast of urban area floods, inundations, and contamination of potable water sources by debris resulting from rural fires.
Civil Protection warned of the necessity to ensure the clearance of water drainage systems and the proper securing of loose structures, such as scaffolding, plaques, and other hanging materials.
Minimum temperatures are expected to drop more significantly, with values around 10 to 15 degrees in the north and center regions, falling to values below 5 degrees in some northern and central inland locations from Saturday night to Sunday.
Minimum temperatures will range between 13 and 18 degrees in the southern region, dropping to values between 9 and 14 degrees from Saturday night to Sunday.
The PSP also alerted drivers today to the bad weather forecast for the upcoming days, which increases the risk of road accidents.
