The Bank of Portugal (BdP) issued a warning on Wednesday regarding an entity operating through the websites accessible at https://banco.monesia.pt/ and https://monesia.pt/, noting that it lacks authorization to conduct business in Portugal.
In an official statement, the financial regulator explained that this entity “is not authorized to engage in activities such as accepting deposits, granting credit, or any other financial activities reserved for institutions under the supervision of the Bank of Portugal.”
Furthermore, the bank stated: “The activities of accepting deposits and granting credit, outlined in sections a) and b) of paragraph 1, article 4 of the General Regime of Credit Institutions and Financial Companies, approved by Decree-Law No. 298/92, of December 31, are exclusively reserved for entities legally authorized for such purposes, as stipulated in article 10 of the aforementioned legal framework.”
The BdP emphasized that the list of entities authorized to accept deposits and grant credit can be accessed on the Bank of Portugal’s official website at www.bportugal.pt.
