“In response to Auchan’s lack of action on our demands, on August 14, Auchan’s warehouses in Vialonga, Torres Novas, and Valongo will come to a halt,” the Comércio, Escritórios e Serviços de Portugal (CESP) union announced in a statement.
The workers are demanding a salary increase of at least 15%, with a minimum of 150 euros, a starting wage at the company of 1,000 euros retroactive to January, and a meal subsidy of 10 euros per day.
Additionally, they are calling for enhanced professional career recognition, the provision of uniforms in sufficient and appropriate quantities, and improved working conditions in frozen goods areas.
From 06:00, a strike picket will also take place in Torres Novas.
In statements to Lusa, Catarina Fachadas of CESP noted that each warehouse has between 200 to 250 workers and expressed disappointment that the company has not yet responded to their list of demands.
Auchan also has a warehouse in Vila Nova da Rainha, where logistics are handled by DHL.
At the striking warehouses, logistics are managed by Auchan workers, but outsourcing services are also utilized.
