Authorities report six deaths and 513 rescues in three months

In a statement, the AMN noted that four of the six deaths were due to drowning, one due to sudden illness, and another from unknown causes.

The drownings occurred at Praia de Carcavelos (a supervised beach) in Cascais, Lisbon district, at the international stretch of the Minho River (an unsupervised maritime area) in Caminha, Viana do Castelo district, and at Praia de Pedrógão, Leiria district, which was not supervised at the time of the incident.

According to the AMN, from May 1 to July 31, there were 513 rescues and 1,215 first aid actions conducted.

Officially, the bathing season starts on June 1, but municipalities are free to begin it before or after this date.
