Autumn in sight Clouds came to stay… rain didn’t. But that will change.

After a warm start to the week, Wednesday brought some cloudiness and light winds, especially in the afternoon. However, this does not indicate a drop in temperatures.

Thursday will see very cloudy skies again in both Greater Lisbon and Greater Porto, but the heat will persist. A slight decrease in maximum temperatures is expected tomorrow in the North and Central coastal areas, yet Lisbon, Beja, and Castelo Branco are still anticipating highs of 29ºC, while Santarém could reach 31ºC.

The lowest maximum temperature is expected in Viana do Castelo, with forecasts of 22 degrees for tomorrow.

According to the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the situation is expected to remain on Friday, with maximum temperatures varying between 22ºC in Viana do Castelo, Aveiro, and Guarda, and 30ºC in Santarém and Évora.

Throughout the week, autumn continues with above-average temperatures and a hot, dry environment across much of the country, but this is about to change.

Rain is expected to return to the mainland on Sunday. According to IPMA’s forecast, the 19th will bring, besides more intense rain or showers in the North and Center, generally very cloudy skies and a decrease in maximum temperatures, “especially in the North and Center.”

At that time, the maximum temperature expected in Lisbon and Aveiro drops to 23ºC, while in Porto and Bragança, thermometers should not exceed 21ºC.

Only the Alentejo region will escape the rain and temperature drop: in Beja, temperatures may still reach 28ºC on Sunday, and in Évora, up to 29ºC—both without signs of precipitation.

The start of next week may mark the return of typical autumn conditions, with rain, winds, and cooler air, particularly in the North and Center.
