The local authority announced on its online page that the measure is taken “as a precaution and to safeguard the safety of people and property,” noting that traffic will be restored “as soon as sea conditions allow.”
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued an orange warning for all districts of mainland Portugal, except Bragança, for this Wednesday due to heavy rain.
For Thursday, the IPMA has also issued an orange warning for the northern and central districts due to maritime agitation.
Between 00:00 and 09:00 on Thursday, waves from the west/northwest are expected to reach significant heights of 5 to 6 meters, potentially reaching a maximum height of 9 meters.
