Azores Airlines, part of SATA Group, announced the addition of approximately 5,000 seats for flights to the Azores, while SATA Air Açores will increase inter-island connectivity by about 3,500 seats.
The enhancement affects routes between mainland Portugal (Porto and Lisbon) and the Azorean archipelago (Ponta Delgada, Santa Maria, Faial, and Pico), as well as between Madeira and the Azores, from December 8 to January 4, with a peak from December 20 to January 4.
SATA Group explained that this decision is based on continuous demand monitoring and sales forecasts for the Christmas and New Year period, traditionally characterized by a significant increase in passenger movement, particularly among students traveling home.
The airlines remain vigilant regarding demand trends, ready to adjust capacity as operationally and commercially justified.
During winter, the two Azorean airlines operate over 400 weekly flights together, aiming to serve all nine islands and ensure accessibility to the Azores archipelago.
Additional flights for the holiday season are now available through reservation systems and can be purchased on azoresairlines.pt, at the carriers’ sales counters, or through travel agencies.
