A financial report has revealed the remuneration details for Azores Airlines’ pilots, as noted by the Regional Government in response to a request from PS/Açores in the Legislative Assembly.
The airline company expended 3.05 million euros in 2024 on overtime payments for pilots and co-pilots, with the highest charges recorded in May (437,000 euros) and October (452,000 euros).
The 2025 data for January through June show that 278,700 euros have already been paid for supplementary hours, marking an expense of 11.1 million euros in allowances (salaries, subsidies, and expense supports) during the first half of the year.
The remuneration table further details that pilot expenses accounted for roughly 30.7 million euros in 2024 for Azores Airlines.
Out of this amount, around 23.9 million euros constituted allowances, and 6.8 million euros were related to employer charges like insurance and premiums.
SATA Internacional – Azores Airlines (operating services to and from the archipelago) registered a negative net result of 71.2 million euros last year, compared to a loss of 26.08 million euros in 2023.
SATA Air Açores (managing inter-island connections) reported a negative net result of 11.6 million euros in 2024, against a 9.97 million euro loss the previous year.
The accumulated loss from both companies totaled 82.8 million euros last year, more than double the 36 million euros reported in 2023.
The privatization of Azores Airlines is under negotiation with the Newtour/MS Aviation consortium.
Following complaints regarding delays in the holiday subsidy payment, the airline began rectifying the situation on Tuesday, as confirmed by an official source of the Regional Government.
