The two new vehicles for the Ribeira Grande Fire Department on São Miguel Island represent an investment of around 200,000 euros, forming part of a broader plan amounting to 836,000 euros to procure nine fully equipped ambulances.
During the vehicle handover ceremony, José Manuel Bolieiro, President of the Azores Government, underscored the significance of this investment in enhancing the fire department’s operational capacity.
“We are strengthening our resources with state-of-the-art equipment, enabling us to provide faster, more efficient, and safer assistance to the population. This is a decisive step in modernizing our Region’s emergency services,” emphasized the Azorean executive leader (PSD/CDS-PP/PPM) at the ceremony, attended by the Regional Secretary for the Environment and Climate Action, Alonso Miguel.
According to the Azorean Government, the new vehicles “are equipped with cutting-edge technology,” including an automatic external defibrillator, multi-parameter monitor, an approved stretcher for safe transport, and communication systems integrated into the Integrated Emergency Telecommunications Network of the Azores Autonomous Region (RITERAA).
“These ambulances are not just vehicles—they are life-saving tools, instilling confidence among citizens,” José Manuel Bolieiro noted in a press release issued by the regional government.
The President of the Azorean Government praised the work of the Azorean firefighters, asserting that they “also deserve the best resources at their disposal.”
“These men and women, both volunteers and professionals, deserve our profound respect. They are the ones who, with courage and dedication, are always ready to help those in greatest need,” he affirmed.
