Today, the president of the Azores Government announced his desire for the region and its autonomy to be included in the 50th anniversary celebrations of Portuguese democracy.

In a message posted on social networks today, José Manuel Bolieiro stated, “I will do everything to include the Azores in the celebration and in the commission of the 50th anniversary of Portuguese democracy in discussions with the Minister of Culture.”

The leader of the Azorean government intends to commemorate April 25 and the Portuguese democratic revolution, which led to the establishment of the democratic autonomous region.

In his message commemorating the 49th anniversary of April 25, 1974, which is observed today, José Manuel Bolieiro stated, “Democracy is better now than it was in the past.

“However, it still falls short of our expectations,” he emphasized.

For the ruler, democracy is an ongoing process of democratization.

“Democrats are the ones who create democracy. We need democratic-minded citizens, he argued, emphasizing the significance of “literacy for democracy.”
