“It is essential to define the method of implementation of the foster care measure in the Autonomous Region of the Azores,” states the legislation, approved by the Regional Legislative Assembly and proposed by the Regional Government led by Social Democrat José Manuel Bolieiro.
The new foster care regime stipulates that placements in foster families in the archipelago will be managed through a regional database, overseen by the Azores Social Security Institute (ISSA).
The regional legislation mandates that candidates for foster care responsibilities must be over 25 years old and provide adequate living, hygiene, and safety conditions for hosting children and young people.
The legislation requires that, within 60 days, regulations be issued regarding the terms, conditions, and procedures for the application, selection, training, evaluation, and recognition of foster families, as well as the terms and conditions for the operation of supporting institutions.
