Baby born at supermarket entrance in Sertã. Mother and child are well.

A 38-year-old German woman gave birth to a baby at the entrance of a Continente hypermarket in Sertã, Castelo Branco district.

The Sertã Volunteer Firefighters, who received the alert and went to the location, confirmed the information, stating that the alert was given around eleven in the morning.

To the Diário de Coimbra, Filipe Nunes, Deputy Commander of the firefighters, reported that the mother was inside the establishment when she went into labor. The baby was born at approximately 11:44 a.m.

The birth was assisted by an off-duty firefighter from the same unit, who happened to be in the hypermarket, along with a staff member from the village health center.

The firefighter raised the alert, but the firefighters stated that upon arrival at the scene, it was no longer possible to transport the woman to the hospital, despite being only a few minutes away from the hypermarket.

After the birth, both mother and baby were transported to the maternity unit at the Amato Lusitano Hospital in Castelo Branco, accompanied by a Medical Emergency and Resuscitation vehicle team. Both are doing well.
