Baby born at the reception of Santos Silva Hospital in Gaia (on the 2nd visit)

The incident was reported involving a newborn’s fall during delivery, prompting the father to file complaints with several entities after the baby reportedly fell on its head during birth while the mother was in the admitting process.

According to communications with Lusa, the administration of ULSGE denies that the pregnant woman did not receive assistance, stating that initially, she was assisted in the emergency room, an area adjacent to the reception, staffed by a doctor and nurses.

“Mother and newborn have been discharged,” the statement added.

ULS admits that the pregnant woman visited the Santos Silva emergency service at 4:30 PM, where a CTG (cardiotocography, an examination that monitors the fetal heart rate and the mother’s uterine contractions) was conducted. It was determined she was not in active labor, and a sudden change in her condition was not anticipated.

“Considering the short distance between her residence and the hospital, less than 10 minutes, and according to Obstetrics Speciality recommendations, we applied the usual procedure: advising her to return home, with instructions to return to the emergency if her clinical condition changed,” ULSGE noted.

The hospital reported that when she returned at 7:59 PM, during the administrative admitting procedure that lasts three minutes, the birth occurred. The woman was promptly and immediately assisted by the emergency team, they concluded.
