The clinical director of Hospital Eduardo Santos Silva in Gaia asserted on Tuesday, October 7, that there was no medical negligence in the case of a baby born at the hospital reception.
In remarks to journalists, Ana Margarida Fernandes initially explained that the pregnant woman, after receiving assistance, was discharged.
“Approximately two hours later, the pregnant woman began to experience some symptoms indicating the start of labor and proceeded on her own to the ULS emergency room,” the director stated, adding that after “speaking with the parties involved and trying to understand the sequence of events,” it was reported that “when the pregnant woman arrived on her own in her car, she was offered a wheelchair, as stretchers are usually provided for bedridden patients.”
“I rule out hospital negligence,” she assured, adding that “the medical team has a clear conscience.”
