
The status update was provided by E-REDES shortly after 1:00 PM, remaining the same as at 10:30 AM. At 8:00 AM, around 20,000 customers were without electricity.
The districts of Lisbon, Santarém, and Setúbal were the most affected by the passage of Storm Cláudia, although the company indicated that Santarém and Setúbal are “in significant recovery” regarding the restoration of electricity.
The National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC) recorded up to 11:00 AM two fatalities, five people displaced from two flooded homes, and 918 incidents.
In statements to Lusa, José Costa of ANEPC stated that two people died in Fernão Ferro, Seixal, Setúbal district, due to a house flooding, and that five people were displaced from two flooded homes in Alferrarede, Abrantes.
In total, between midnight and 11:00 AM, 918 incidents were recorded in Portugal, of which 594 were floods and 140 were fallen trees.
The Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region was the most affected by Storm Cláudia, with 540 incidents.
In the Central region, 263 incidents were recorded.
The North registered 66 incidents, Alentejo 19, and Algarve 31, according to ANEPC.
Meanwhile, the Médio Tejo Civil Protection Sub-Regional Command specified having recorded in Abrantes two displaced individuals—already relocated to relatives’ homes—and three others displaced.
“Since midnight, we have 64 occurrences, with many floods, clearances, and fallen trees. The most significant continues to be Abrantes, where two people were displaced and three relocated due to water entering homes,” he stated.
According to the official, the affected individuals were relocated to relatives’ homes until they can return to their residences.
Storm Cláudia has been impacting mainland Portugal and the Madeira archipelago since Wednesday, with heavy rain, strong winds, and intense maritime agitation, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).
In addition to traffic disruptions, the severe weather affected rail lines in the North and West.
In the districts of Santarém and Setúbal, IPMA issued a red warning, the most severe, for occasionally heavy and persistent rain until 10:00 AM today.
The red warning is the most severe and is issued whenever there are extreme situations, while the orange warning is issued by IPMA when there is a “moderate to high-risk meteorological situation,” and the yellow warning is for risk situations for activities dependent on weather conditions.
