
At 17:30, approximately five thousand customers remained without power, as reported by E-Redes to the Lusa agency at 18:20.
Initially, E-Redes noted that at 12:00 nearly 25,000 customers were affected, but with anticipated improvement in weather conditions in the afternoon, the operator expected “to quickly resolve all constraints.”
A subsequent update at 14:30 indicated about nine thousand customers were still without electricity.
By 07:00, there were 53 outages and around 31,000 customers without electricity, a situation that worsened around 08:00, affecting 37,000 customers, particularly in the Mondego and Tejo regions.
The company stated that at 08:30, there was a peak of around 60,000 customers without power, and by 11:00, “a significant improvement in the response to the constraints experienced on the grid was noted, with around 42,000 customers without electricity,” mainly in Santarém, Castelo Branco, and Portalegre districts.
E-Redes further detailed that the alert status was activated from 20:00 on Tuesday due to forecasts of heavy rain and thunderstorms.
“E-Redes will remain mobilized and active in resolving all situations that may be affecting customers,” assured the company.
In statements to Lusa early in the afternoon, José Costa, operations officer of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), noted that 784 incidents were recorded between 00:00 and 12:00 due to strong rains and winds.
“These included 435 floods, 163 fallen trees, 77 road clearances, 76 fallen structures, and 31 landslides, which involved falling rocks and soil, as well as one water rescue,” he specified.
According to José Costa, the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region was most affected, with 409 incidents, followed by the central region (191), the north (132), and Alentejo (52).
The Portuguese mainland is currently affected by a moderate to strong activity cold frontal surface, causing rain, thunderstorms, and winds, according to the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
