Bad weather causes more than 180 incidents in Madeira

The SRPC stated that these incidents involved 422 personnel and 192 technical resources.

Among these incidents were 107 tree falls, five landslides, 15 preventive risk-reduction actions, 12 hazard warnings, 16 construction element collapses, 19 power line falls, three temporary structure collapses, and eight removals of elements at risk of falling.

It was also noted that 54 of these incidents occurred in the municipality of Funchal, followed by Santa Cruz (37), Machico (34), Calheta (16), Ribeira Brava (14), Câmara de Lobos (11), Santana (5), Porto Santo (4), Porto Moniz (4), São Vicente (4), and Ponta do Sol (2).

The Civil Protection agency stated that “all incidents were promptly resolved at the municipal level.”

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued a red warning, the most severe, for the northern coast of Madeira and Porto Santo due to strong maritime agitation until 3:00 PM today.

Heavy precipitation and wind have placed Madeira under an orange warning until Sunday.

The Madeira archipelago is being affected by the Emilia depression, characterized by strong winds, snowfall, and rain, which may be intense at times.

Bad weather affects Madeira Airport for the 2nd consecutive day
