In a statement, José Costa from ANEPC reported 307 floods and 48 fallen trees due to heavy rain and wind caused by depression Cláudia, impacting mainland Portugal and the Madeira archipelago with strong rain, wind, and maritime agitation, according to the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
The commander noted, “the most affected region was Lisbon and Tagus Valley, with 300 occurrences,” and “the sub-region of the Setúbal Peninsula, with 175.”
In the districts of Santarém and Setúbal, IPMA issued a red warning, the most severe, for occasionally heavy and persistent rain, which was in effect until 10:00 today.
In the districts of Portalegre, Évora, and Beja, the orange warning will be in effect until 12:00, due to “occasionally heavy and persistent precipitation.”
In Faro, the orange warning extends until 15:00 today.
The rest of the mainland and the Madeira archipelago are under a yellow warning today.
The red warning is the most severe, issued for extreme situations, while the orange warning is issued by IPMA for a “moderate to high-risk meteorological situation,” and the yellow for activities dependent on weather conditions.
