
“As of 09:30 on May 10, we recorded 26 incidents related to adverse weather conditions, involving 58 personnel and 26 land resources,” stated a communication issued by the Regional Civil Protection Service.
The regional authority noted that the majority of incidents (16) were floods, along with six landslides and four danger alerts.
Ribeira Brava experienced the highest number of incidents (13), particularly due to the complete blockage of the Via Expresso 4 on the Serra de Água section. It was followed by Santa Cruz with five incidents, Funchal with four, Câmara de Lobos with two, Ponta do Sol with one, and Machico with one incident.
The Madeira archipelago was previously under an orange alert due to heavy rainfall and is currently under a yellow alert until 21:00, as reported by the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).
