The situation in the districts of Santarém and Setúbal is “significantly improving,” as noted by E-REDES.
As of 12:30, approximately 13,000 customers remained without electricity, down from 20,000 at around 08:00.
Mainland Portugal experienced 1,292 incidents due to severe weather conditions by 13:00 today, resulting in two fatalities, one minor injury, and nine people displaced, according to the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC).
Emergency and Civil Protection National Commander Mário Silvestre briefed reporters at ANEPC headquarters in Carnaxide, Oeiras, Lisbon District, at 13:30, identifying flooding, structural collapses, fallen trees, and road clearances as the most frequent incidents, with three land rescues and five water rescues conducted.
Regarding casualties, Silvestre reported two deaths in Fernão Ferro, Seixal, Setúbal District, due to a house flooding, and one minor injury from a fallen tree in Serpa, Beja District.
Silvestre also mentioned five people were displaced in Médio Tejo, Abrantes, and four in Lezíria do Tejo, in Glória do Ribatejo, Salvaterra de Magos, both in Santarém District.
A “severe wind phenomenon” in Nisa, Portalegre District, caused damage to ten houses and the electrical grid.
Damage was also recorded in Silves, Faro District, and Fundão, Castelo Branco District, affecting roofs and structures.
Depression Cláudia has affected mainland Portugal and the Madeira archipelago with heavy rain, strong winds, and turbulent seas, according to the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).
The IPMA issued a red warning, the most severe, for heavy and persistent rain in the districts of Santarém, Setúbal (until 10:00), and Faro (until 15:00).
Since 15:00, Beja and Faro are under an orange warning, while the rest of the mainland is under a yellow warning.
