Bank payments, IMI and more: The 5 topics that mark this Wednesday

The Bank of Portugal (BdP) has introduced its latest mechanism aimed at preventing fraud in the financial sector. This development follows the implementation from the previous year in May, which required account holders to be identified via their IBAN during transfers.

On Tuesday, the Tax Authority (AT) issued several clarifications regarding the payment of the Municipal Property Tax (IMI). Property owners who receive an IMI bill stating a payment deadline at the end of May can ignore this information and instead make their payment by June 30.

Pingo Doce, on Wednesday, unveiled a new offering—the option to purchase products online through the company’s website. This shift marks the end of its previous partnership with Mercadão.

The year 2024 marked the second-best performance ever in gross sales of social games by Santa Casa de Lisboa, surpassing 3.1 billion euros and recording the highest payouts ever. Scratch cards played a significant role, accounting for over half of this amount (58.8%).

Mercadona reported a net profit margin of 3.88%, allowing it to outpace its main rivals. In the retail sector, profit margins typically range from 1% to 2%, according to the Huffpost publication. The reasons behind this are worth exploring.
