The union has issued a statement claiming that the Government’s proposals are “highly detrimental to the interests and rights of all workers,” including thousands of professionals in banking, insurance, and technology represented by SBC.
“SBC fully supports the general strike scheduled for the 11th of this month by UGT, the union center with which this union has been affiliated since the beginning,” reiterated the union’s president, Helena Carvalheiro, in the same document.
Today, the MAIS Sindicato also commented on the labor changes anticipated by the Government, stating that the proposed measures will severely harm banking professionals and called for support for the general strike on December 11.
The union also warned about risks to employment, collective bargaining, and job stability.
CGTP and UGT have announced a general strike for December 11 against the Government’s proposal, marking the first joint stoppage since June 2013, when Portugal was under the ‘troika’ intervention.
In an interview with Antena 1 and Jornal de Negócios, the UGT’s secretary-general explained that the union center proceeded with the strike due to being cornered by the Government, advised to reflect, and considered advancing to “two days of strike” if the executive presents the same proposal.
